CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


Aerial 1/2
This beginning level class is appropriate for ages 6-13, and focuses on age appropriate moves, that
teaches the basics of getting off the mat. This class creates a new understanding of balance and center
with the opportunity to explore a variety of apparatuses including fabric, and hoop. Taught by, Sara Hill.

Aerial 2/3
This intermediate level class is geared for ages 10 and up. Explore vertical space with this aerial dance
class! Instructed by Polaris Dance Theatre’s M’Liss Stephenson, this is a teen/tween multi-level class
that broadens their aerial vocabulary, and continues to develop choreographic skills. Dancers will have the
opportunity to further develop upper body and core strength while building stamina in the air. Aerial dance
creates a new understanding of balance and center with the opportunity to explore a variety of apparatuses
including fabric, trapeze and hoop.

Open Aerial
Explore vertical space with aerial dance! This multi-level class is geared for ages 14 to adult. Aerial dance
allows you to further develop upper body and core strength and gain orientation in space while focusing on
choreographed transitions. The class creates a new understanding of balance and center with the
opportunity to explore a variety of apparatuses including fabric, trapeze and hoop. Taught by Polaris
Company Member, Tia Zapp

Ballet 1
This class focuses on developing flexibility, turn out, strength, proper alignment and a sense of center
in the body that is the critical foundation for all other forms of dance. This beginner level class is taught by
Polaris Company Member, Jenny Dubac and is geared for ages 6-9. It provides students with the basic
foundations of ballet technique in an atmosphere that is creative, supportive, friendly and encouraging.

Ballet 2
This intermediate class is geared for ages 10-13. It focuses on maintaining and improving flexibility,
turn out, strength, proper alignment and a sense of center in the body. Ballet 2 is taught by Polaris
Company Member, Jenny Dubac. The class offers students the opportunity to further refine and develop
their ballet technique while learning to maintain corrections. Barre exercises warm and tone the body,
and set the foundation for greater freedom of movement in center.

Ballet 3
This is an intermediate/advanced level class that is geared for ages 14 and up, and is taught by Polaris
Company Member, Haley Blaise. The class offers students the opportunity to further refineand develop
their ballet technique with more advanced combinations, and higher expectations on maintaining, and
applying new corrections daily.

Open Ballet
This multi-level class is geared for ages 14 to adult, and is taught by Stephanie Orza. She sets a
soothing, and motivational tone while teaching class, and is devoted to helping each individual improve.
The combinations are challenging mentally and physically. Barre exercises warm and tone the body,
and set the foundation for greater freedom of movement in center.

Pointe 1
Learn the basics of Ballet Pointe work in this beginning level class, taught by Polaris Company Member,
Jenny Dubac. This class is designed for students with technique of ballet 2, or higher. Through repetitive
barre exercises, the dancer will develop the ankle strength and stability that is required for pointe work.
This class is also appropriate for the skilled ballet dancer who is looking to maintain strength on pointe.

Pointe 2
Learn the basics of Ballet Pointe work in this beginning level class, taught by Polaris Company Member,
Haley Blaise. This class is designed for students with technique of ballet 3, or higher. Through repetitive
barre exercises, the dancer will focus on strength, and technique of basic pointe work.

Contemporary 1
This beginning level class is geared for ages 6-9 years. Taught by Polaris Company Member, M’Liss
Stephenson, this class incorporates the Horton technique, a codified modern dance method aimed to fortify,
stretch, and strengthen the body while elements of Limon, Graham and African styles are also woven in.
You will enjoy dancing to a mix of contemporary music in a playful, yet hard-working atmosphere.

Contemporary 2
This intermediate level class is appropriate for ages 10-13. Taught by Polaris Company Member, Chase
Hamilton, this class will cover a combination of modern, and contemporary techniques. Students will learn
how to release into the floor, while pushing against it for stability. We will play around with inversions,
work on our head to tail connectivity, and increase our strength, and flexibility. Through out the entire class,
we will be working on full body awareness.

Contemporary 3
This contemporary class is geared for the intermediate to advanced level student, ages 14 and up. This
class provides dancers with a grounded center from which to work as they explore a dynamic range of
contemporary movement qualities. Taught by Polaris Company Member, M’Liss Stephenson, this class
incorporates the Horton technique, a codified modern dance method aimed to fortify, stretch, and
strengthen the body while elements of Limon, Graham and African styles are also woven in. You will enjoy
dancing to a compelling mix of contemporary music in a playful, yet hard-working atmosphere.

Open Contemporary
This multi-level class is appropriate for ages 14 to adult. Treat yourself to this dynamic adult dance class
that blends contemporary, jazz and ballet disciplines. Polaris Company Co-founder Sara Anderson puts
together challenging yet very danceable combinations that put a smile on your face while you build strength
as well as stamina. This class is suitable to both the participant who has never danced and the trained
dancer who enjoys an energy-filled workout.

Tiny Toes
Do you have ten tiny toes in your household? If so, this is the perfect class for them! Our Tiny Toes class
incorporates first stretches and steps to a mix of music, stories and games. Children learn movement,
coordination and rhythm in an atmosphere that is playful, creative and encouraging. The class is
appropriate for ages 3-5 and is taught by Company Member, M’Liss Stephenson.

Hip Hop 1
This hip hop class is geared for ages 6-9 years, and provides students with an introduction to foundational
hip hop styles. Class is taught by Jocelyn Edelstein, and will start off with a rigorous warm up. Students will
working the body articulately, and integrate musicality, and rhythm awareness. Students will work on
choreography, spacial acuity, and the development of their own movement.
